Acme Roofing sweeps regular season
Acme Roofing ended the regular season of the 2008 Miller Lite Four-Person Beach Volleyball League on perfect note, sweeping the MHS Peers in three sets last Thursday on the PIC sand court.
Acme Roofing pulled off a 21-18, 22-20, 22-20 victory to finish the regular season with a clean 10-0 slate and secure the league’s pennant title.
The MHS Peers dropped to a 6-4 record.
Three other squads also capped their bids in the regular season on a winning fashion.
The MHS 67 Doh-Fins finally broke into the win column, slipping past Champ-On.
Champ-on took the opening set, 21-11, but lost composure in the last two sets allowing the MHS 67 Doh-Fins to escape with a 21-18, 21-14 triumph which ended the latter’s nine-game losing skid.
Despite the win, the Doh-Fins are already out of contention for the playoffs, along with Champ-on and MHS Serves Up!
The MHS Serves Up! failed to win its last game of the season bowing to Off Twice in the second match of the last day of the regular season.
Off Twice clinched the win early when it swept the first two sets in similar scores 21-14, before MHS Serves Up! recovered and saved a 21-13 victory in the third set.
In the third game, Enyophace swept the MHS Oakies, 21-10, 21-19, 22-20.
Enyophace closed out the regular season in second place with a 9-1 record.
Acme Roofing and the MHS Peers played in the last match with the former securing the No. 1 spot in the playoffs after beating the latter.
The playoff round will start tomorrow with eight teams battling in a single-elimination format.
Joining Acme Roofing in the next round are Enyophace, Karakuchi, MHS Peers, Thai One On, Kimoichi, MHS Oakies, and Off Twice.
Karakuchi , MHS Peers, and Thai One On finished the regular season with similar 6-4 records.
To break the tie, organizers had to go the teams’ points scored in the regular season. Karakuchi won with its 580 points against the MHS Peers’ 577 placing the former to third and dropping the latter to fourth. Thai One On settled for fifth place with its 483 points.
There was also a tie for sixth to eighth place with Kimoichi, the MHS Oakies and Off Twice carding identical 5-5 slates.
Kimoichi secured the No. 6 slate with its 559 points, followed by the MHS Oakies (537), and Off Twice (524).
Pairings in the first round of the playoffs will be Acme Roofing vs. Off Twice; Enyophace vs. MHS Oakies; Karakuchi vs. Kimoichi; and MHS Peers vs. Thai One On.
