Memorial to NMI’s fallen service members completed
Just in time for Veterans Day, a memorial dedicated to all U.S. military service members of the Northern Mariana Islands who have died in the line of duty will be unveiled on Capitol Hill today.
The Fallen of the Northern Mariana Islands Photo Memorial will hang in the second floor lobby of the Juan Atalig Sablan Administration Building. The memorial commemorates active duty service members of the Commonwealth who have died since the Vietnam War. The project is spearheaded by Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez.
“When I walked the halls of Congress last year and saw how each state had posted photos of all their war dead from Operation Iraqi Freedom, I wanted our men and women in uniform to have the same honor,” said Villagomez.
The individuals commemorated are CPL Frederico V. Dela Cruz, CPL Gregorio Lizama Pangelinan, CPL Vicente Pinaula Moreham, SSG Yihiyh “Eddie” Lang Chen, SSG Wilgene Tudela Lieto, CPL Derence Weilbacher Jack, SGT Jesse J. Castro, LCPL Adam Quitugua Emul, CPL Lee Roy A. Camacho, PFC John Derek Flores, CPL Victor M. Fontanilla, CPL Joe Junior Gogue Charfauros, Seaman Ana Marie SN. Camacho, and SSG Julian Aquiningoc Manglona.
“I made a promise to each family that their service would not be forgotten by our community. This is a promise kept,” said Villagomez. “I invite all the family members and the community to come and view the memorial.”
Villagomez also acknowledged the donation of Kautz Glass Company and the assistance of the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs in making the memorial possible. (PR)
