The office of the Low Income Home Energy Program will be holding its first Energy Fair on Saipan on Nov. 26 at the 4H Club.

Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Cecilia Taitano-Celes said this event would give people tips on how to conserve power and cost. LIHEAP is under DCCA.

Taitano-Celes said LIHEAP’s George Fitial would be the overall coordinator for the one-day fair.

Smaller events had already been done on Rota in September and on Tinian two weeks ago. “We had a very successful fair on Rota and Tinian,” Fitial said.

The Saipan fair would be open to the community and will showcase products or items that promote energy saving.

“Companies can sell their energy products such as fans, solar water heaters, bulbs and other promotional items,” she said.

Taitano-Celes said the fair would be a coordinated effort with other government agencies such as the Department of Public Health, Division of Public Safety, and Division of Environmental Quality.

“We have to find ways to make people aware of several methods of energy conservation. We urge them to join and bring any kind of promotional tools,” she said. “Our job is to go out and make the public aware about some of the methods and the new technologies we can utilize. It would be a beneficial fair.”

Taitano-Celes said the fair is a way of educating people about the little things they can do to save cost instead of relying fully on electricity.

LIHEAP said there will be raffle prizes to be given away such as butane gas, light bulbs, apron and other things that are useful at home.
