Teno calls for unity[/B]
Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio yesterday called for unity in the Republican Party following Saturday’s open primary that saw the defeat of Lt. Gov. Jesus R. Sablan in seeking the nomination as its official gubernatorial candidate in next year’s election. “I am happy that the primary is [over] and people went out and voted for their choice,” the Republican governor told reporters in an interview.
A five-man delegation from the Northern Marianas is flying to Manila in two weeks to finalize the amendment to the existing labor agreement between the Commonwealth and the Philippine governments. CNMI officials are scheduled to meet with their Philippine counterparts on Nov. 20 and 21 in Manila for the formal signing of the amendments to the Bilateral Labor Agreement which officially closes the Commonwealth Liaison Office in Makati City.

The Grace Christian Academy made a pitch yesterday for businesses and individuals to avail of tax credits by giving up to $5,000 to nonprofit educational institutions in the CNMI. Speaking before the Rotary Club’s Tuesday meeting at the Hyatt Regency Hotel-Saipan, GCA’s fundraising coordinator Kimberly Lunn said this program allows businesses to have the opportunity “to choose where your valuable tax dollars are being spent.”

Republican standard bearers Felix Camacho and Kaleo Moylan take the highest posts in the Government of Guam, racing ahead of their Democrat-rivals with more than 4,400 votes, according to unofficial final general elections results released Wednesday. Unofficial tally of election returns indicated that Camacho and Moylan rallied with 23,440 votes, making them the next Guam Governor and Lieutenant Governor, respectively.

CNMI government leaders yesterday passed on good wishes to the new slate of elected Guam leaders, especially congratulating the victorious tandem of Governor-elect Felix Camacho and Lt. Gov.-elect Kaleo Moylan who won Guam’s gubernatorial polls Tuesday. Gov. Juan N. Babauta said that he and Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente are looking forward to working with the Camacho-Moylan administration in addressing issues of mutual concern-specifically in the areas of health, tourism and education.

Sen. Pete P. Reyes strongly believes that Sen. Paul A. Manglona and his group should hold off their planned Nov. 17 session on Rota in deference to any ruling that the court would issue on the pending civil case filed by Manglona’s bloc in connection to the leadership dispute.“Doesn’t it make sense that because they have a case pending in court that they should wait for the adjudication of that case so that they know whether this action that we have done is legitimate or not?,” asked Reyes, who claimed the Senate presidency in September following a reorganization initiated by four Senate members—himself, Ramon S. Guerrero, David M. Cing and Thomas P. Villagomez. the areas of health, tourism and education.
[B]CUC board split on desalination project[/B]With no member to break the tie vote, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. Board of Directors ended up split, 3-3, on the proposed approval of its intent to award the $136.9-million Saipan desalination contract to a Korean firm. Favoring the motion were CUC board chairman Herman P. Sablan, vice chairman and operations committee head Frank Q. Guerrero, and member Laura Manglona.
