Organizers of the Masters Basketball League is hoping to kick off the 2008 season of the MBL on Nov. 10 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

MBL coordinator Arnold Mesa said so far eight teams have shown their interests in competing in 35-and-above caging.

Mesa said interested teams must submit an initial payment of $250 before they are allowed to play in the league. The remaining $250 will be paid on installment basis.

The MBL coordinator added the league will be implementing a new rule on age requirement.

Teams can have on their rosters only four players in the 35 to 39 age group. The remaining eight players must be in the 40-and-above age group.

Mesa said the new rules aims to have balance in the league.

This year’s Masters caging will serve as a preparation for players interested to compete in the Guam Masters tournament in December and in the World Masters Olympics in Sydney, Australia next year.

This year’s Masters caging was supposed to start in August, but frequent power outages forced organizers to move the opening of league on a later date.
