Santos spectacular in USSP 8-ball
Dean Santos took two out of three games from Ron Chisato to win the USS Peleliu Club’s Monday 8-Ball Tournament.
Chisato moved to the top of the winners’ bracket by taking out John Mongami and Taylor Watanabe. Watanabe had defeated Rick Rengiil.
Santos sent Rose Phillips and George Olivares to the losers’ bracket for the other slot and sat atop the winners’ bracket after his first showdown with Chisato. Olivares had defeated Annie Tesiro.
Phillips eliminated Tesiro, but lost to Watanabe. Rengiil topped Mongami, then fell to Olivares’ comeback as the USNS Shasta sailor continued with a close win over Watanabe and an even closer loss to Chisato.
Chisato came out of the losers’ bracket with fire in his eyes and grabbed the rematch from Santos with his shot-making. Santos took advantage of a good setup for a four-ball run and the championship in their third matchup.
The players agreed on splitting the pot between first and second place because of the wallet-friendly $5 entry fee.
Sign-up for USSP’s Monday 8-Ball Tournament starts at 8pm.
More cash and prizes, including turkeys, are coming up Nov. 26, when USSP holds its annual Marianas Turkey Shoot. The usual double-elimination format will be used for the 8-ball competition.
