Acme Roofing inches to regular season sweep
Acme Roofing is a win away from sweeping the regular season of the 2008 Miller Lite Four-Person Beach Volleyball League after notching its ninth victory Tuesday night at the PIC sand court.
Acme Roofing topped MHS Serves Up! In the first two sets, 21-19, 21-17, to secure the win. MHS Serves Up recovered in the third set, 17-21, to foil Acme Roofing’s shutout bid.
MHS Serves Up! dropped to a 1-8 record, joining Champ-on to the second to the last place in the team standings. Champ-on (1-8), MHS Serves Up!, and the MHS 67 Doh-Fins are out of contention for playoffs spots.
The Dof-Fins are at the cellar of the 11-team field with a 0-9 record after bowing to Enyophace in three sets.
Enyophace’s 21-7, 21-7, 21-8 triumph over the Dof-Fins improved the former’s record to 8-1 keeping the team in the No. 2 spot in the team standings.
In other results Tuesday night, the MHS Oakies struggled past the MHS Peers.
The Oakies took the first set easily, 21-8, but failed to take the win when the Peers recovered in the second set with a 21-16 victory. The Oakies then needed three extra points to thwart the Peers in the deciding third set, 24-22.
The Oakies recorded their fifth win in nine games and are in sixth place. Despite the loss, the MHS Peers are three notches higher than the Oakies in the team standings, as the former’s 6-3 mark is the league’s third best.
In the last game in the penultimate day of the regular season, Thai One On swept the last two sets to down Karakuchi.
Karakuchi took the opening set, 21-17, but lost the game when Thai One On prevailed in the last two sets, 21-11, 21-18.
Karakuchi and Thai One On have identical 6-4 records, but the former claimed the No. 4 spot with it 18 sets won compared to the latter’s 16.
Kimoichi and Off Twice, which did not play Tuesday night, are in seventh and eighth place completing the playoffs cast.
The league’s regular season will end tonight with Acme Roofing going for a sweep when it battles the MHS Oakies in the last game of the night at 8:30pm.
In the first game at 5:30pm. the Dof-Fins will aim to break into the win column and have a decent finish in the league when they duel Champ-On.
Off Twice will go for win No. 5 when it collides with MHS Serves Up! in the second game at 6:30pm.
The third match of the night will feature Enyophace squaring off with the MHS Peers at 7:30pm.
Playoffs will start on Nov. 11 with a double-elimination format, while the championship match will be played on Nov. 13.
