‘The people hold the key’
Candidate Luis Crisostimo made sure to arrive at San Vicente Elementary in time to vote at 8:58am.
Eight is his lucky number, he said.
“I like eight. Eight is infinite,” he said, adding that the number is also significant because he met his wife in August, the eight month of the year.
But besides that superstition, Crisostimo said yesterday’s election was standard for him.
“As usual, I feel normal,” he said. “I’m not in a hurry. I really feel the same as I did the last three elections.”
He is currently a senator for the third district.
Crisostimo, who kissed and hugged voters as they arrived and departed the precinct, said he was satisfied with how his campaign went.
“We worked hard,” he said. “It’s really the people that hold the key.”
He said he did not advertise on TV or radio this past month to show the public he did not need to follow the American way of campaigning.
“I was told a lot of times we have to follow the American system of advertising,” he added.
A focus for him, he said, was making sure to be careful in how he spent money. For this campaign, he put fresh paint on billboards he used during last year’s election.
“We can say we’re Americans, but we don’t have to follow the American way,” he said. (Kristi Eaton)
