Jeremiah bounces back in Genesis Cup
Defending champion Jeremiah outclassed Ezekiel, 82-78, Saturday night at the CIM-FCC Basketball Court in Gualo Rai to recover from its debut loss in the CIM-FCC Inter-Color Basketball League-3rd Genesis Cup.
Jeremiah dropped its first game against Daniel, 77-94, and met tough opposition in its second assignment to Ezekiel.
Despite getting double-digit outputs from three players in the first half, Jeremiah led by only four, 40-36, at halftime. Dante Olivos finished with 11 first-half points for Jeremiah, while Boy Garcia and Amor Casabuena chipped in 10 apiece.
Kae Bernardo and White Capalad kept Ezekiel afloat, hitting 12 and 10 markers, respectively, in the first half.
Bernardo continued to lead Ezekiel in the first half adding 17 points, but he had only Ernie Moises supporting him with the latter contributing 12. Actually, only Bernardo and Moises scored for Ezekiel in the second half.
Jeremiah drew contributions from five players with Casabuena picking up where he left off, tallying 10 points in the second half.
The biggest lift came from Wowee Abuel who exploded for 21 points in the second half after a sluggish first half. Abuel was held to five points in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Glenn Mercurio also stepped up chipping in eight of his 11 markers in the second half. Matt Buenabajo and Garcia scored Jeremiah’s three other points in the second half.
Abuel top-scored for Jeremiah with 26 points.
Bernardo led all scorers with 29 markers, while Moises contributed 27, but these were not enough to prevent Ezekiel from dropping to a 0-3 start.
Ezekiel lost its first two games against Isaiah and is hoping to snap its losing skid this weekend when it faces the undefeated Daniel (2-0).
