The second leg of the Northern Marianas Athletics All Schools Cross Country Series will be held on Nov. 8 at the Airport Field.

Next week’s event will be the last warm-up for the All Schools championship set for Nov. 15.

The first warm-up was held last week with students from Saipan International School, Whispering Palms, Marianas High School, and Kagman High School joining the races.

SIS’s Jae Seung Park timed in at 10 minutes 43 seconds in the 1,500m race in the 7-and-under division.

Runners in the 7-and-under, 9-and-under, and 11-and-under divisions took the shorter course, while participants in the 14-and-under and 18-and-under ran the 5,000m course.

The same course distance will be implemented in next week’s races and in the championship.

In the 11-and-under division, Gabrielle Race timed in at 7:55 to finish ahead of SIS’s Emily Jones (10:05), and Jee Won Park (10:46).

MHS’s Jim Lacsima clocked in at 17:27 in the 5000m race in the 14-and-under division.

Four raced in the boys’ 18-and-under division with Kagman’s Mark Echaure finishing the 5,000m race in 19:57, followed by teammates Jesus Iguel (20:01), Anthony Viray (21:32), and Mark Sanchez (21:32).

Kagman’s Kayla Sablan clocked in 24:20 in the girls’ 18-and-under race.

NMA is encouraging students and their teachers/coaches to participate in the second leg of the series and in the championship.

The Top 3 placers in each age group will receive medals, while trophies will be awarded to the top three schools.

A school will qualify in the team awards if it fields at least five runners in the races. Points will be awarded to each runner to determine the rankings of schools. The first finisher will get a point, two for second, three for third, four for fourth, five for fifth, and so on. The school with the lowest points wins the division. In case of a tie, the school with a sixth finisher wins the tiebreak.

Participants in the 7-and-under, 9-and-under, and 11-and-under age group will race first and will be followed by runners in the 14-and-under and 18-and-under divisions.
