A woman who was just recently married suffered multiple injuries when her intoxicated husband allegedly beat her up repeatedly in different places on Saipan Friday last week.

The suspect allegedly used in the assault many objects—a screwdriver, stainless steel chopsticks, a broken computer’s jagged end, a pen, and bottle of liquor.

The victim sustained injuries to the face, neck, arms, and legs, police said.

The suspect, Fernando Valentine, 40, was arrested yesterday for assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, assault, disturbing the peace, and criminal mischief.

A $15,000 cash bail was initially imposed for Valentine’s temporary liberty. He was set to appear yesterday afternoon for a bail hearing in the Superior Court.

Detective Andrea C. Ozawa stated in her report that the victim and Valentine, who were just married in August, had an argument in their house in Chalan Piao last Thursday.

Valentine left the house and returned intoxicated at 4am. He woke up his wife, instructed her to pack his clothes and follow him to their car. To avoid further arguments and not disturb their neighbors, she followed his instructions.

The suspect allegedly brought the victim to different places on the island, where he would beat her up each time they stopped. He also allegedly threatened to kill her, suspecting that she was having an affair.

During the attack, the suspect used a stainless steel chopstick to try to stab his wife. He also broke their laptop computer into two pieces and stuck its jagged ends onto her neck. He also took a pen and shoved its writing end into her nostrils.

At one point, Valentine stopped the beating long enough so he could buy beer and water at a store in San Antonio.

The victim convinced the suspect to bring her to G4S Company in Garapan so he would see the “boyfriend’s” profile.

At G4S, the victim was able to get the attention of one of the staff to get help. When Valentine learned that the police were on their way, he went to the restroom and disappeared.
