This week, HPV information packets are being distributed to female middle school students in the 7th-8th grades and all freshmen girls in high school.

According to the CNMI Coalition Against Cervical Cancer, these packets include information on cervical cancer in the CNMI and on the HPV vaccine.

The CNMI Immunization program will be visiting each school with a team of nurses to administer the vaccine. The vaccine is given as a series of three shots over the school year at no cost to the family.

Also in the HPV packet is a consent form that must be signed by a parent and returned to the school. Only girls with completed consent forms will be vaccinated.

This campaign is a cooperative effort of the Immunization Program of the CNMI Department of Public Health, the Commonwealth Cancer Association, and Stellar Marianas.

“We are building upon the success of the campaign the past school year, to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer in the CNMI,” said Dr. Jack Hardy, senior adviser of the Commonwealth Cancer Association.

If your daughter does not receive a packet by Monday, Nov. 3, call the school or the Immunization Program at 236-8734. (PR)
