$5K raised in Sister Remedios Walkathon
The Inaugural Sister Remedios Memorial Walkathon was a complete success with over 100 taking part in the event, raising a total of $5,000.
The walkathon, organized by Sister Remedios Early Childhood Development Center, was held last Saturday and had participants walking from Kilili Beach Park toward the traffic light intersection in San Jose.
Students from Sister Remedios who were joined by their parents and friends comprised majority of the participants.
While they need not have done so many still chose to turn around at the Quartermaster intersection and return to Susupe, making the event similar to the Joeten Charitable Foundation Walkathon.
Incidentally, the Joeten Charitable Foundation was the main sponsor of the Sister Remedios Walkathon.
In addition to its donation, the foundation also collected pledges amounting to over $1,000 from its employees to support the school.
Other donors provided prizes for the raffle ticket drawing held after the walkathon. DoComo Pacific donated a cellular phone and a beach chair; Pacific Islands Club donated waterpark passes for four; Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan donated Sunday brunches for two; Subway donated Subway coupons worth $140; and the Governor’s Office donated 10 cases of water.
The Sister Remedios PTA Council hopes to make the walkathon an annual event to be held in mid-October to coincide with and to commemorate the birthday of the school’s namesake, the late Sister Remedios P. Castro.
The council also extends its appreciation to all the parents, friends, sponsors, and most especially to the Joeten Charitable Foundation for the strong support given to the school.
“To everyone who participated and/or helped in any way, a big thank you and God Bless!” said the organizers. (PR)
