The Marianas Visitors Authority had just completed participation in the East Asia International Travel Fair 2008 in Dalian, a key city in North China. The recent resumption of Shanghai Charter flights that began Sept. 29 added new impetus to this marketing effort in mainland China.

MVA, along with the Tinian Dynasty Holiday and Century Tours, attended the 5th East Asia International Travel Fair that was held on Oct. 10 – 12 at the Dalian World Expo Plaza. The event attracted exhibitors from over 20 countries and attendees from all regions of China and elsewhere.

MVA marketing specialist Leng Bai, Century Tours GM Ronald Chan, and Tinian Dynasty Holiday Shanghai Office GM Emily Shi led the delegation.

EAITF is one of the most important exhibition shows in China’s exploding tourism market. It targets Northern China but receives guests, agents, and travelers from around China and around the world.

About 20 percent of tourists brought to Saipan, Tinian, and Rota by Shanghai charter flights were sent by the travel agents from Dalian and North China in past years. That percentage has increased to 40 percent after the Sept. 29 flight resumption. Aided by Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Century Tours, MVA will further strengthen promotional activity in North China.

MVA has also redoubled efforts in Shanghai by exhibiting at a highly attended and important show recently. The New Life Style Show in Shanghai held on the grounds of the Formula 1 Sinopec Chinese Grand Prix drew huge crowds of upscale potential tourists. Leng Bai said that interest in Saipan, Tinian, and Rota ran very high at the event.

“We continue to market the CNMI as a destination to the outbound Chinese traveler,” said MVA managing director Perry Tenorio. “Fairs like this allow us to reach the affluent market in China. This clientele is one that we would like to see visit our islands.”

The China International Tourism Mart 2008 will be held in November and MVA will be there to extol the virtues of the Mariana Islands. (MVA)
