Headstart, community groups share plans
The Headstart program met with several service providers yesterday to discuss programs and plans for future events.
This is the first meeting of the school year between the organizations. Meetings are held quarterly.
“We share about programs to be more knowledgeable. We review and see if there are areas we need to include,” said Malua T. Peter, Family and Community Partnership coordinator.
Representatives from Medicaid; the Mayor’s Office; the Nutrition Assistance Program; The Women, Infants, and Children program; Karidat Social Services; and the Department of Public Health were among the attendees.
“They’ve been very supportive. We’re committed to helping Headstart,” Peter said.
She said the representatives discussed the upcoming calendar of events, including the Week of the Young Child. It is usually held in April, but they are hoping to host it earlier this year, sometime before February, she said.
Transportation for clients was also discussed at the meeting. The group is looking at possibly applying for a grant from the Northern Marianas Housing Corp. to improve transportation for clients.
