Austerity Fridays 2: The Sequel
Well, well. Looks like unnecessary spending by our government leaders has led us once again to Austerity Fridays. It is amazing how this always is their solution to reducing government spending. Instead of making the average employee suffer by taking a big chunk of their paycheck, why couldn’t government leaders to the following instead:
* Decrease the salaries of judges from $120,000 per year to $80,000. They are ridiculously overpaid.
* Decrease the $5,000 allowance that senators get per month down to $2,000 per month. Senators are currently getting $39,000 salary per year plus the $60,000 allowance. That’s $99,000 per year per senator. Decreasing the allowance would result to $324,000 per year in savings.
* Reduce the size of the Legislature. We don’t need three senators for every island. We don’t need more than one congressman per precinct. Who in the Legislature actually has the courage and selflessness to vote for this? Too many lawmakers, so little progress.
* Decrease the salaries of agency directors. They average about $$60,000-70,000 per year.
* Apply the Open Government Act to the Legislature. This will allow us to track down spending abuse by local leaders. Legislators, what are some of you hiding?
* Do not dare waste hundreds of thousands of dollars on a useless lawsuit that will just hurt our relationship with the U.S.
* Aggreko sound familiar? We would have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars if we went with Telesource. We also wouldn’t have had to wait such a long time to get the power we needed because the generators are on Tinian.
The list goes on and on. This is just the tip of the iceberg. See what happens when people at the top are not making the right decisions? It is the people at the bottom and those around them that end up suffering. Biba Marianas! Fanogi Chamorru!
