Tattoo festival begins today
Tattoo artists from around the world are converging on Saipan today as the Tatu Fest 2008 gets underway at Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan.
“This is a one-of-a-kind event,” said local tattoo master Ed Elenzano a.k.a. Dragon Edong, the organizer of the second annual festival.
He extended the festival from two to four days this year due to demand, he said.
Nearly 30 tattoo artists are expected at the event, including artists from France, Japan, Norway, U.S. mainland, and Malaysia.
Elenzano said the event is a good way for people to learn about the styles of tattooing in different countries and islands.
There will also be competitions each day, Elenzano said. The categories include best portrait, most realistic, best color, best tribal, best black and gray, best Japanese tattoo, best bodysuit, best dragon, sexiest tattoo, best arm tattoo, and best leg tattoo.
The $10 entrance fee allows for a free drink and live entertainment. Children under 10 can get in free with a parent.
The festival is being held at the Hibiscus Hall of the Fiesta Resort & Spa today through Sunday.
The event is sponsored by iConnect, Budweiser, Marianas Visitors Authority, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, Aquarius Beach Tower, Salbahe Brand, National Office Supply, Gold’s Gym, Island Apparel, Pro-Tech, Islander Rent-A-Car, Godfather’s Bar, and El Drako Kooleksions.
