Ambrosio T. Ogumoro took his oath of office yesterday as range master for the Department of Public Safety.

“I am very happy that I am back to serve our community and law enforcement in the CNMI,” Ogumoro told Saipan Tribune.

Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo administered the oath for Ogumoro in his courtroom.

As range master, Ogumoro is in charge of the armory and firearms record, and firearms training for all law enforcement agencies in the CNMI.

Ogumoro said there are a lot of priorities he needs to address in the department.

“One is to upgrade the training proficiency and the other is to address the needs of law enforcement itself,” he said.

Ogumoro was reinstated to his post as range master on Oct. 6. With the oath-taking he can now proceed with firearms training.

“It [oath taking] gives me the authority to carry firearms and train [police on handling firearms] within the CNMI,” he said.

“And so there should be no questions or doubts within the community whether I am deputized or certified to train [people on] firearms,” he added.

Ogumoro said he appreciates the administration’s trust in him. He also thanked his friends, family members and for some DPS personnel who attended the oath-taking ceremony to support him.

‘I am proud to be back,” the range master said.

Govendo said he is happy that Ogumoro is back because the range master, who used to serve with the U.S. Marines, has a lot of things to contribute to law enforcers and to the CNMI people.

Juan M. Cabrera, owner of Bing Bing Bang Shooting Range in Garapan, said he owns 36 guns and it was Ogumoro who certified him.

“He gave me more knowledge on how to handle firearms. Mr. Ogumoro tought me a lot and now I am a professional,” Cabrera said. “A lot of police officers that time when Ogumoro was not there [DPS shooting range], they didn’t know how to shoot a gun.” (Ferdie dela Torre)
