Pairings in the first round of the playoffs in the 2008 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League had been completed with games starting tomorrow at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The CNMI Junior Nationals are seeded first in the single-elimination playoffs with their perfect 8-0 record and are paired with No. 8-ranked team Chalan Kanoa Saints.

The Junior Nationals and the Saints, who finished the regular season with a 2-6 slate, will duel tomorrow for Game 1 of the playoffs at 5:30pm.

Game 2 on the same day at 7pm will have the second seed San Antonio Sixers facing the No. 7 pick Kontenders. The Sixers had a 7-1 record in the elimination round, while the Kontenders held a 3-5 slate.

The Kontenders tied the Suns and the Sonics in win-loss records, but were relegated to seventh place after earning the lowest points in the tiebreak.

The Sonics placed sixth and will be pitted against the No. 3 team Rollers I. The Sonics and the Rollers I, which ended the regular season with a 6-2 record, will play in Game 3 on Monday at 5:30pm.

Game 4 is set for Tuesday at 5:30pm and will feature the No. 4 seed G-Stars colliding against the fifth-ranked Suns. The G-Stars completed their regular-season campaign with a 5-3 slate.

The semifinal round is scheduled on Oct. 30 with winners of Game 1 and 4 squaring off for the first finals ticket at 5:30pm. The second semis game will have the victors of Games 2 and 3 dueling for the last finals berth at 7pm.

The title game will be played on Nov. 4 at 7pm. The battle for third place is set on the same day at 5:30pm.

League organizers are reminding teams that failure to settle the entrance fees before the start of their games will result to win forfeiture.

The CNMI Junior Nationals are this year’s defending champion, beating the Sonics in last season’s finals, 98-91.

The Sonics dropped to the lower half of the team standings this year, as their five wins were forfeited for fielding an ineligible player in the 18-and-under caging.

Only one team was eliminated in this year’s Rotary caging with the Rollers II failing to advance to the next round having won only one game in eight matches.
