The Senate has confirmed the governor’s appointment of an employee at the Tinian Casino Gaming Control Commission to the Commonwealth Election Commission.

Donald M. Hofschneider received the unanimous vote of the Senate on Friday. He will serve as a member of the Election Commission, representing Tinian. His term will expire on Oct. 21, 2011.

“The lieutenant governor and I are confident that Mr. Hofschneider is qualified and will be an asset on this important board,” the governor said in a message to the Senate.

Hofschneider currently works for the Tinian gaming commission. He joined the commission as licensing officer in April 2000 and was promoted in June 2002 to his current job as fiscal officer. He worked for the Tinian Mayor’s Office as researcher and accountant from 1994 to 1997, and as chief of planning and budget from 1998 to 2000.

Hofschneider’s first major task as a member of the Election Commission is to help conduct the historic election on Nov. 4, 2008, when local voters will pick the Commonwealth’s first ever delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Also sitting on the Election Commission are chair Frances M. Sablan, Elizabeth DLG. Aldan, Melvin B. Sablan, Jose L. Itibus, and Jesus M. Sablan, all from Saipan; Jose P. Kiyoshi from Tinian; and Miranda V. Manglona from Rota. One seat for Rota is vacant.
