Senator Maria “Frica” Pangelinan, attorney Rebecca Warfield, former NMC president Agnes McPhetres, businesswoman Kimberly King-Hinds, former Rep. Malua Peter, and other notable leaders will be tackling gender issues at an upcoming free forum this Thursday.

Entitled “The X Chromosome: Gender Equality in the CNMI,” the forum is sponsored by the Northern Marianas Council for the Humanities as part of its We the People Project and organized by Taro Leaf, Inc.

Women today have less traditional “gender barriers” than their counterparts just a few decades ago. The highly-regarded political, business and community leaders like those mentioned earlier will be discussing whether these barriers still exist. And, whether it still takes “one of the boys” to obtain certain leadership roles in business or in government? They will also be discussing how gender plays a role in leadership styles.

Pioneering CNMI women will also share their own experiences in shattering the glass ceiling and important lessons they’ve learned while doing so. Other topics will include other key issues facing today’s women. The forum will be moderated by Frances Sablan.

Members of the community are encouraged to participate in the dialogue by personally attending the forum and enjoying complimentary refreshments at the Pacific Islands Club Charley’s Cabaret on Thursday, October 23rd from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Off-island residents can also participate by watching the forum live the internet at www.wethepeoplecnmi.com. Instructions on submitting questions and comments can be found on the site.
