NMC eyes partnership with Kaiping City
Officials from Kaiping City, China have expressed strong interest in sending some of their citizens to study here on Saipan after a visit Friday last week at Northern Marianas College.
The college’s public relations office said the Chinese city officials met with NMC officials led by president Dr. Carmen Fernandez last Oct. 10.
A possible partnership between NMC and Kaiping City is now in the works following the visit. Kaiping City is part of Guangdong province.
The city’s officials took time to tour the campus and see for themselves some of NMC’s facilities.
The delegation included Dawai Tang, Helen He, Tan Wen Han, and Tan Si Yuan.
“The officials expressed strong interest in having students from Kaiping City attend the college as soon as possible,” NMC said.
Dr. Fernandez discussed with them the various courses NMC is offering to its students.
She told them that NMC has strong programs in nursing, English, and other areas that would greatly benefit students from China.
Kaiping City officials and the NMC president agreed to continue their communication that would further “the implementation of a partnership toward common goals on education.”
Also present during the meeting were NMC Director of Admissions and Records Rosaline Cepeda and two nursing graduates.
Meanwhile, NMC’s Final Report on the recommendations by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges is expected to be out today.
Just last week the NMC Board of Regents approved a resolution that would request $3.1 million budget for operational expenses.
That resolution categorically stated that the board’s approval of the budget directly addresses the Accreditation Commission for Community and Junior Colleges’ Team Recommendation 1, which—among other things—requires the college to integrate its planning processes, evaluation activities, and resource allocations.
