1st int’l garage sale opens
The Garapan Street Market has become a way of life on Saipan, a Thursday event where sellers and customers meet. Last Saturday, another one has sprung up, with the same set up but with a different name, a different place, and different products for sale.
Biz Aid Saipan Enterprises, Inc. said the opening of the first international garage sale and flea market in front of Gentle Brook Café at the Marianas Business Plaza in Susupe last Saturday drew a big crowd.
“We call it international because anybody could sell any product except food items,” explained Biz Aid administrative assistant Divine Sotto.
A total of 21 stall owners joined the sale, offering brand new and secondhand items that included clothing, shoes, computer gadgets, kitchen ware, fishing gear, children’s toys, office supplies, and ladies accessories, among others.
The Susupe Flea Market would be a regular Saturday activity from 10am to 6pm.
Those who wish to put up displays at the flea market can contact Sotto at 234-7626 or 234-8088.
Sotto said several others have signified intention to put up their own stalls this coming Saturday along Akiba Street.
Space for a stall would cost $15 but there would be discounts depending on how long a seller wish to lease stall space.
A stall owner whose novelty items came directly from Japan said her sales have so far been good.
Another stall owner, Alex Doctor, said they easily sold out their used clothing stock.
Sotto said there would be free shuttle rides on the “chicken bus” from Garapan to the Marianas Business Plaza. The southbound shuttle buses leave Fiesta Resort at 10am, and at Kinpachi, Hafa Dai Beach Hotel, Saipan World Resort, and Saipan Grand Hotel in five-minute intervals. From the north, the shuttle buses will leave Pacific Islands Club at 10am, the Coral Ocean Point Resort at 10:05am and from Carmen Safeway at 10:25am and every hour.
Aside from the sellers, there would also be groups of youngsters to entertain customers.
Last Saturday, Project Impact and Final Extreme performed modern dances and put up a donation box in the area.
