Tenorio: VA knows NMI not foreign
CNMI Resident Representative Pete A. Tenorio has assured CNMI veterans eligible for medical benefits that the Veterans Administration has not changed any policy toward them or the CNMI.
“If there is a problem with any of our veterans being told that they are not eligible for transportation costs because the CNMI is ‘foreign,’ it is a clerical error and if they contact me, my office will see that it is corrected,” said Tenorio.
“My office in D.C. has contacted the VA Administrator’s Office, and has been reassured that there has been no change in policy and that they are completely aware that the CNMI is not foreign. I have also met with Ms. Ruth Coleman, executive officer for the CNMI Veterans Affairs Office, who informed me that she has been in contact with the Honolulu VA Office and has been assured that there has been no change in VA policy toward the CNMI,” said Tenorio. “Ms. Coleman further assured me that the VA will issue a letter that will clarify positions of care within the CNMI, Guam, American Samoa and Micronesia.”
“I urge any veteran who has been denied transportation costs by the VA to contact my District Office at 664-5651, or the Veterans Affairs Office at 664-2650 immediately. I will work with VA personnel to resolve the problem as quickly as possible,” he added. (PR)
