Organizers of the 2008 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League have given coaches/team representatives until the end of the regular season to settle their dues or face elimination in the youth caging competition.

In a letter to coaches/team representatives of nine squads, league coordinator Elias Rangamar said teams who will not be able to complete the payment for the entrance fee will not be able to play in the playoffs even it they make the list.

Only the Top 8 teams will advance to the next round. So far the list include the CNMI Junior Nationals, San Antonio Sixers, Rollers I, G-Stars, Kontenders, Suns, Southern Sonics, and the Chalan Kanoa Saints.

The playoffs will have a singe-elimination format and will not start until Oct. 19, as the regular season was extended from next week to Oct. 17.

Games in the regular season will be played for more than two weeks, as the league failed to hold regular games this week due to the unavailability of players, referees, and a coach.

The Junior Nationals are in Guam competing in the 7th FIBA Oceania Youth Tournament, while G-Stars mentor Jose Tumaquip is coaching the CNM cagebelles in the same event. Two CNMI referees are also in Guam.

The Rotary caging did not have games Tuesday and Thursday nights and only resumed action last night with the undefeated Sixers battling the Southern Sonics.

Nine more games will be played starting next week before the 18-and-under caging enters the playoff round.

On Oct. 7, the Rollers I will take on the Rollers II. Other games scheduled are Suns vs. Sixers; G-Stars vs. Kontenders; Junior Nationals vs. Rollers I; Suns vs. Sonics; Rollers I vs. G-Stars; Junior Nationals vs. Sixers; Rollers I vs. Saints; and Junior Nationals vs. G-Stars.

The Junior Nationals are this year’s defending champion, beating the Sonics in last season’s finals, 98-91. The Sixers the G-Rollers I battled for the consolation match with the former winning the third place trophy after pulling off an 85-84 win.
