Stop tarnishing the image of the NMI

On Tuesday, the Saipan Tribune had a story titled “2 jobless workers allegedly resort to car burglary.” I’ve seen this kind of articles so many times and I wonder what our leaders—both elected and appointees—are doing about it? What are these two jobless alien workers still doing on our island? No wonder why we have so many illegal aliens that are still running around, doing odd jobs and unthinkable crimes. Our Immigration and Labor Systems needs a major revamp No wonder why the U.S. wants to take over these two departments.

We have governed our way of life for over 30 years since we became U.S. citizens, and these problems still exist. I mean, I still see two Chinese national riding their bicycles with at least four trash bags full of aluminum cans to sell at a recycling center in Puerto Rico, and I wonder if this is the job they applied for on our island. Pimping, prostitution, corruption, illegal taxi, scam marriages, illegal drugs, burglary/theft—all these have tainted our image. We really need to get our act together. I urge all officials to include private organizations to work together and come up a solution. As the old saying goes, “We need to start cleaning up our “trash”, no offense to those that do not apply. But to those who do illegal acts, I hope you get caught for whatever crimes you are committing.

To our CNMI descent and non-CNMI descent who make the CNMI their home, I urge all of you to work together and help put a stop to these types of senseless acts that have tarnished the image of our islands.
