Angara, investment experts preview PERA law as APAFS investment conference nears

[B]GUAM[/B]—The Asia Pacific Association for Fiduciary Studies held a press conference for its 8th Annual Pacific Region Investment Conference last Sept. 24, 2008, at Board Room 5 of the Renaissance Makati City Hotel.

In attendance were Raul Diaz, president of Trust Officers Association of the Philippines; Vandermir Say, president of Chartered Financial Analyst; David John, president of ASC Trust Corp.; and Sen. Edgardo Angara.

ASC Philippines general manager Karen Ching hosted the press conference.

David John, APAFS board representative, gave an overview of the annual conference, saying, “We organize this conference every year to provide a regional resource for reviewing the latest trends, practices and issues in fiduciary management across the region, as well as give our delegates the chance to network with various colleagues from the industry.”

Angara also delivered a preview of his talk by discussing the merits and benefits to the Filipino people of the PERA law, which he authored.

The floor was opened to questions, during which the panel shared insights on investments and the upcoming conference. The two-day conference on Oct. 9-10, 2008, at the Grand Ballroom of the Renaissance Makati City Hotel will address the present international trends in the industry as well as discuss fiduciary practices and implementations that are more suitable to the Asia-Pacific region. The conference also serves as an important venue for information and cultural exchange and provides networking opportunities to participants and lecturers alike.

The conference’s keynote speaker is the legendary contrarian investor, Dr. Marc Faber, who is the author of Tomorrow’s Gold: Asia’s Age of Discovery, which enjoyed several weeks on Amazon’s bestseller list and has been translated to five different languages. Other notable speakers are Angara, author of PERA Law and Philippine Pension Reform; Connie Mullis, vice president of ProfitSharing/401k Council of America; Geri Marullo, president & CEO of Consuelo Foundation; David J. John, president of ASC Philippines and ASC Trust Co. in Guam; and Frank W. Crawford, president of Crawford & Associates, PC, among others.
