Kristo Rai Parish Golf fundraiser this weekend
Over 40 players have so far registered for the 3rd Annual Kristo Rai Parish Golf Tournament this Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
Tournament coordinator Margaret Dela Cruz said they expect around 85 participants to take part in the one-day event that would benefit the Kristo Rai Parish Church, which is undergoing repairs.
Dela Cruz said players usually come in droves and beat the registration time on event day, which have been the case the past two years when over 80 joined the event.
Registration will start at 6:30am while tee time is set an hour later at 7:30am.
The donation cost will be $100 for each player. This includes green/cart fees, raffle prizes, and banquet cost. Last year, a total of $10,000 was raised for the Garapan church.
Trophies and other gift items will be given to the Top 3 winners of each category.
The awarding ceremony will be held at the Laolao Bay golf Resort driving range right after the end of the tournament.
Last year, veteran golfer Jeff Taylor bagged the Championship Flight with an even-par 72, narrowly beating Superior Court presiding judge Edward Manibusan, who came in with a 73. Jess Wabol, the 2006 winner, was third last year with his 76.
But Wabol’s victory last weekend Sept. 20 in the Club at Hyatt competition was a big morale booster to the former Oleai Elementary School principal as he is again expected to join this weekend’s tournament.
Last year’s other winners were Ray San Nicolas (A Flight), Rep. Arnold Palacios (B Flight), Joe Saures (C Flight), Manny Tenorio (Seniors Flight), and Lorraine Babauta (Ladies Flight).
