A group of Korean tour guides donated more than $1,000 worth of rice to the Man’amko Advisory Council yesterday at the Office on Aging.

Nearly 100 tour guides chipped in to buy 30 50-lb. bags of rice.

“We’d like to extend our big thank you. Thank you to the Korean tour guides. Thank you very much. God bless everyone,” said Francisco Reyes, chairman of the Manamko Advisory Council

This is the first time the tour guides have donated to the Council. They plan to make donations twice a year to the man’amko and once a year to the Public School System.

Ji-Won Choi, one of the tour guides, said the donation is meant to show the guides’ appreciation

“We’re using their land for our work,” he said. “We wanted to show thankfulness to those who have lived here a very long time.”

Walter Mangloña, the events coordinator for the Office on Aging, said the donation comes at a good time.

“[The donation] is big as far as the economy goes here,” he said. “The number of clients goes up each month.”

The bags will be split between Saipan, Tinian and Rota, based on the number of man’amko and handed out. Whatever is left will be used for a party, Manglona said.
