Dan Ganacias wins September Ace
Dan Ganacias claimed the Fil-Taga Golfers Association September Ace of the Month title, beating 12 other players last Sunday on the west course of the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
Ganacias shot a net 67 for a one-shot win over Greg Gamboa. The 18-handicapper drilled a gross 85 on the Kagman golf facility.
Actually, two players fired a net 67 with Rey Ferraz tying Ganacias. But Ferraz had already won the June plum, disqualifying him from taking home another monthly title. The 21-handicapper Ferraz scored a gross 88.
Other Fil-Taga members who joined last weekend’s monthly tournament were Ted Malaran (net 71), Nestor Siruelo (72), Fred Cataluna (73), Mando Guban (73), Rene Batallones (78), John Matsumoto (78), Manny Corcuera (79), Leo Ganacias (80), Manny Po, and Nono Bostre (88).
Cataluna, a 10-handicapper, recorded the lowest gross in the tournament with his 11-over par 83. August Ace and four-handicapper Leo Ganacias had the second lowest gross with 84.
All monthly winners will qualify for the association’s year-end tournament with the victor getting the Golfer of the Year title.
Fil-Taga, which was established in 1993, has three more monthly tournaments left before calling the 2008 season off and elect new officers.
The current Fil-Taga officials are Juan Dela Cruz Jr., president; Jhun Calma, vice president; Po, secretary; and Guban, treasurer. The association’s board of directors is composed of Fr. Manny Corcuera, Miguel Cruz, Jr., Malaran, Gil Faller, Ferraz, Greg De Torres, Batallones, Siruelo, and George Sablan
Fil-Taga’s monthly tournaments are played under a computer-controlled handicap system that creates parity among players in the A and B Flights.
