The Chalan Kanoa Saints broke into the win column with a 66-40 rout of the Rollers II in the 2008 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League Monday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Zack Tudela erupted for 38 points to lead the Saints to a 26-point win and snap their four-game losing skid. Tudela’s output was the highest so far this season.

He scored the first basket of the game—a 3-pointer—and went on to nail 11 straight points midway in the first half. Tudela also drilled the Saints’ last seven points in the first half, which ended with the Chalan Kanoa-based squad ahead by 11, 29-18.

The Rollers II kept the Saints within a striking distance in the first half, as the former drew contributions from its starting five and two players off the bench.

But Tudela continued to put on a show in the second half, firing four more triples, while the Rollers II did not have much offensive prowess to overcome an 11-point deficit and steal the win.

The loss was the Roller II’s seventh in as many games keeping the team at the bottom of the team standings.

The 18-and-under caging is on its final two weeks and so far two teams are still undefeated in the nine-team league.

Last year’s finalist the Southern Sonics hold a clean 6-0 record and were gunning for win No. 7 against the Kontenders last night.

The San Antonio Sixers was the only other unbeaten team in the league, having won their first four matches.

The Sixers will put their immaculate record at stake against the CNMI Junior Nationals this Friday. The Junior Nationals have a 4-1 slate.

Tonight, the Rollers I will duel the G-Stars hoping to end its two-game losing skid after a 2-0 start. The G-Stars are on a roll having won their last two matches after dropping their first two.
