The G-Stars continued their brilliance following a 37-25 victory over the Rollers II in the 2008 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League Wednesday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The win was the G-Stars third in a row after a poor 0-2 start in the nine-team league.

The Rollers II was not as fortunate as the G-Stars, as the former absorbed its sixth loss in as many games.

The Rollers II had an anemic start and with only seven points in the first half, there was no way it could pull off a win against the G-Stars despite picking up the scoring in the second.

The Zachary Babauta-coached squad scored the least points in a half this season, making only three field goals in the first half.

Dan Mateo nailed seven of his nine points in the first quarter to give the G-Stars a 16-7 lead.

The Rollers II more than doubled its first-half output in the second half, drilling 18 markers. But still, the G-Stars outscored the Rollers II in the final 20 minutes of the game, 21-18.

Nate Mateo picked up where his twin brother Dan left off in the second half, firing all his seven markers in that canto, while David Kautz chipped in six to lift the G-Stars to a win in a low-scoring game.

The victory moved the G-Stars from sixth to fourth place behind the CNMI Junior Nationals (3-1) and undefeated teams San Antonio Sixers (4-0), and Southern Sonics (5-0).

The Junior Nationals will go for win No. 4 tonight when they duel the Suns team, who is at the bottom half of the team standings with a 1-3 slate.

The Sonics were looking to extend their winning run to six in a game against the Rollers I last night. The Rollers I has a 2-1 record and was hoping to recover from a loss against the Sixers.

G-Stars 37 – D. Mateo 9, Kautz 8, N. Mateo 7, Sablan 6, Kenty 5, Rangamar 3.

Rollers II 25 – Mabini 7, Brennan 6, Babauta 4, Santos 2, Manglona 2, Rivera.

Scoring by halves: 16-7, 37-25.
