Test explosion scheduled in Guam

[B]GUAM[/B]—In preparation for Vigilant Guard 2008, a test explosion is scheduled to take place at John F. Kennedy High School, Tamuning, Guam, today at 1pm.

“This training exercise will greatly benefit everyone on Guam to help us better prepare for future potential threats,” said Maj. Gen. Donald Goldhorn, the adjutant general, Guam National Guard. “The training that we are doing here is as realistic as can be given the circumstances, and we are working with our civilian authorities to ensure that safety of our community is our priority.”

There will be trained personnel overseeing the execution of this exercise to ensure safety measures are in place.

Vigilant Guard is a regional exercise program sponsored by the National Guard Bureau. The program provides an opportunity for State National Guard Joint Force Headquarters, State Joint Task Forces and Field Units to improve command and control and operational relationships with internal, regional civilian, federal operational relationships with internal, regional civilian, federal and military partners against homeland security threats.

Today and tomorrow, a Field Training Exercise is scheduled to take place at the high school for approximately 36 hours of operation. Another explosion that will launch this FTX is scheduled to take place during early morning hours today.[B][I] (PR)[/I][/B]
