Rules set for delegate bets’ forum
There will be a public forum for the candidates running for the CNMI delegate position at the Kagman Community Center on Sept. 20 at 6pm. It will be hosted by the Kagman Komunidat Association. Candidates will get the chance to present themselves and where they stand on issues affecting the CNMI, particularly in its dealings with the federal government.
There are nine candidates running for this Nov. 4 election. They are Resident Rep. Pete A. Tenorio, former senator David Cing, television talk show host John Oliver Gonzales, retired judge Juan T. Lizama, businessman Chong Won, Sen. Luis Crisostimo, former Election Commission executive director Gregorio “Kilili” Sablan, high school teacher and Vietnam War veteran John Davis, and Saipan Municipal Council member Felipe Atalig.
The format of the forum will be as follows:
1) Candidate Introduction: Candidates will introduce themselves for a maximum of two minutes. They do not have to use up the whole two minutes for this.
2) Questions and answers: The audience will write down some questions, and the Kagman Komunidat Association will screen them for appropriateness. The questions will then be asked by the two co-hosts. There will be a total of nine questions asked. Each candidate will have one minute to answer each question. Each candidate will be timed and cut off when time is up.
3) Final remarks from the candidates: Each candidate will have five minutes to convince the audience to vote for them through their closing remarks. They will also be timed.
Entrance will be limited to 100 people, so the Kagman Komunidat Association will implement a “first-come, first-serve” entrance policy. There will be no exceptions, it said.
“Come and get to know the candidates before voting for them. May the best candidate win and represent the people effectively,” the association said in a statement. (PR)
