Newman-Mister duo tops PIC Horseshoe tilt

Becca Newman and Angie Mister bested four other pairs to rule the 2008 Pacific Islands Club Horseshoe Tournament held last week on the grounds of the San Antonio hotel.
Newman and Mister won the ninth edition of the annual tournament after whipping the pair of Tyce Mister and David Loan in the finals, 21-6.
The pair of Newman and Angie Mister received $60 each and Magellan brunch certificates for two for beating Tyce and Loan.
Loan and Tyce also went home with Magellan brunch certificates and $20 each.
There was a tie for third place between the duos of Megan Hasselshear and Linda Roberts and Mark McDonald and Greg Folta. They each won one PIC waterpark passes for two.
In fifth place was the pair of Divya Sharma and Karen McDonald, who received Pacific Trading Company products.
The annual tournament had a round-robin format in the preliminary round and single elimination in the playoffs.
All teams tasted defeat in the elimination round before the duo of Newman and Angie Mister went unbeaten in the playoffs.
Meanwhile, PIC is reminding teams of the banquet for the 2008 Miller Lite 4-Person Beach Volleyball Fall League Beach Volleyball League on Sept. 18.
During the banquet, teams will select players from the pool. Organizers have been implementing rules similar to the drafting of players in the NBA in the past several years to have a balanced competition in the league.
Actual contest will begin on Sept. 23 and games will be held twice a week.
The entrance fee is $20 per player and a NMIVA member and $25 for non-members.
