Capt. Dolores San Nicolas, the acting Department of Public Safety Commissioner, urged motorists yesterday to cooperate during outages by practicing courtesy stop at traffic intersections.

San Nicolas said the department is trying its best to monitor major traffic intersections when there is no power to make sure that everybody is safe on the streets.

“But at the same time, we ask the public’s cooperation to please practice the courtesy stop by giving each other courtesy to safely transit when there’s an outage,” she said.

She also explained that when it rains, no officers will be standing in the middle of intersections during outages.

“It is very dangerous to put an officer in the middle of the road because you cannot control a heavy equipment coming to a stop. It is very hard when it is slippery and if an officer is out there, he will be hit right in the middle at a three-stop sign area,” San Nicolas said.

“Again, we ask the public’s cooperation to please cooperate and do courtesy stops until such time the power is back to normal,” she said.

In the meantime, she said, police officers will be out monitoring intersections and making sure that everybody is safe during the transition time.
