AFC official to conduct one-day clinic Saturday

Bicol Express sizzled via the roll-off tiebreak system at the expense of SBC and took away the title for the 6th season of the Philippine Bowling Association Monday Night League sponsored by Budweiser.

Both teams finished the tournament with identical 43-29 win-loss records but Bicol Express stoked the fire on SBC in a dramatic finish at the Saipan Bowling Center on Aug. 25.

The awarding of prizes and trophies was done on Sept. 1 with the Bicolano champions pocketing the top purse of $375. Bicol Express is composed of Kitz Barja, Paul Bea, Totie Limpin, Edwin Guzman, and Rey Madrilejos,

SBC settled for the second place prize of $275, while third place finisher Super Fafa won $200 after compiling 40 wins and 32 losses. Completing the cast were Zimbuka, fourth place and $100, and Mix Breed, fifth and $50. Both teams had 40-32 win-loss records.

Super Fafa topped three of four team categories in the special awards that were given out including the high game scratch with a total of 861 pins, high game with handicap (916) and high series scratch (2,371).

The team also placed second with 2,521 pins in the high series handicap for their total earnings of $370.

Nila’s Salon totaled 2,569 pins in the high series to win the category. It placed second in high game with handicap with 913 and second in high series scratch with 2,254 for a total team prize of $110.

SBC had 823 pins for second place in high game scratch that won them $30 and total team earnings of $305.

For the individual awards, Kitz Barja of Bicol Express and Raul Dumapit showed some sort of rivalry and dominance of the tournament as they topped two each of the six categories.

Barja finished with 282 pins in the high game scratch with Dumapit placing second with 269. Yho Villavicencio came-up with 218 to top the ladies division.

Barja had 293 in high game with handicap while Tony Verdaguer finished with 285 while Joan Varona prevailed in the ladies class with 254.

Dumapit totaled 703 as against Barja’s 677 in the high series scratch, while Teregeyo asserted her billing in the ladies with 594.

Dumapit also topped the high series handicap with 715 while Verdaguer had 713 and Teregeyo won with 687.

In the high average, Robert Talavera (199) and Teregoyo (172.60) won the men and ladies categories, respectively.

Raphael Zapanta (+14.4 to average) and Villavicencio (+11.5 to average) were adjudged as the men and ladies most improved player.
