In 2011 the CNMI will vote on the issue of land ownership. Presently only Northern Marianas Descent can own land. Furthermore the CNMI Constitution allows for only NMDs to vote on land issues. NMDs are persons born or domiciled in the Northern Marianas on or before 1950 and were Trust Territory citizens. Only persons who are U.S. citizens and are not less than 25 percent NMD or a child under 18 who is adopted by a NMD can own land in the CNMI.

What are your thoughts? Take the poll at www.camachocnmi.com.

On behalf of the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources, I have placed on my website www.camachocnmi.com a poll on who can vote to own land in the CNMI. The House Natural Resources Committee will monitor the results of this poll carefully. The poll result, along with public hearings and public comments, will assist the Natural Resources Committee on formulating policies on this very important matter.
