A local organization is seeking the names and addresses of CNMI military men and women stationed around the world in order to send them care packages.

Operation Home Front Support is beginning a drive to send care packages to all CNMI military men and women, said Geri Willis, program organizer and program director for CNMI Troops-to-Teachers.

“Any military off island are welcome,” she said. “It’s for all members of the military.”

Fred Camacho, co-organizer of Operation Home Front Support, said they hope to send the packages by the end of November, so the men and women can receive the packages in time for the holidays.

Operation Home Front Support will begin collecting items Sept. 27, Camacho said. They are seeking canned food, drinks, snacks, as well as letters to the individual men and women.

“We want to make sure that all of them get something,” he said.

When Camacho was deployed, he said receiving a personalized letter was very uplifting.

There will be collection sites around the island, including sites at the Public Schools and fire stations to act as individual village sites. The Reserve Center will act as the overall collection center.

The organization will soon begin arranging samples at local grocery stores, so residents can get an idea of what items are needed and in what size.

“They can see the size of the box and can get an idea,” Camacho said.

Willis said they are aiming to send 200 packages, but the Red Cross bought 300 boxes just in case.

Those who know of an address of a military man or woman can contact Willis or Camacho at troops2teachers@hotmail.com or 237-3287.
