The Saipan Walking Association Inc. recently announced that they have two more walking activities left before 2008 comes to a close.

These are the 9th Annual Thanksgiving “Don’t Be A turkey Walk” to be held on Nov. 22 and the Annual Christmas Walk in the Marianas on Dec. 20.

The turkey walk traditionally begins at the Chamolinian Cultural Village in Garapan and takes participants along the flame tree-, coconut palm-, and ironwood tree-lined route of the Saipan Beach Pathway.

It is being held with the help of the Department of Public Health and the CNMI Diabetes Coalition.

The bookend annual Christmas Walk in the Marianas, meanwhile, coincides with the start of Christmas celebration in the Marianas. The walk starts at the Chamolinian Cultural Village and is held in partnership with the Marianas Visitors Authority.

Just last month, the 7th Annual Foundation & Family Day was held along the Saipan Beach Pathway.

Like in the past, the 9th Annual Thanksgiving “Don’t Be A Turkey” Walk as well as the Annual Christmas Walk in the Marianas will be sanctioned by IVV and as such SAIWAI and IVV members will receive credit for joining.

IVV has member walking clubs in the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, Nepal, Australia, New Zealand, the CNMI, and 29 other European countries, including Germany.

SAIWAI was incorporated as a non-profit corporation on July 27, 2001 and was established to promote public health through non-competitive walking.
