The Coalition for Recognition, Equality and Advancement of American Ethnic Minorities, CREAM, will be spearheading a mock election on Sept. 13, 2008 to determine who among the candidates for the U.S. Delegate post will be supported by the group.

The officers and members of the group agreed to hold the mock election at their meeting Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Alanars Compound in San Antonio.

After the mock election, the coalition will invite the top four candidates to speak in a forum so they could hear firsthand from the front runners their campaign platforms and how they plan to represent and help the CNMI tackle its many problems such as power situation, lack of water, labor and immigration issues for both locals and long-time contract workers, immigration status, immediate relatives who will lose their local immigration status and many other concerns that only the U.S. Congress could resolve.

The voting criteria is not only limited to U.S. citizen ethnic voters. Eligible U.S. citizen voters can also participate so they can voice their opinion through the ballot.

Everyone who is eligible to vote will be given a ballot and allowed to cast their votes, provided that the potential voter is 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen and a registered voter. Several designated polling places will be located around Saipan. Officers of the coalition will be going around to provide ballots for people to vote.

The results of the mock election will be published in the local papers for the people to know the sentiment of concerned citizens of the CNMI.
