Five teams confirm for PHILCOWA caging
Five teams have so far confirmed to join the maiden season of the Philippine Contract Workers Association Basketball League during a meeting last Tuesday with organizers.
PHILCOWA sports coordinator Pando Muleta said there are five more slots left before they proceed with the opening ceremonies on Sept. 28.
Muleta said they have decided to change the original plan of separating the tournament into two divisions and make it into just an open division format.
He said they are skipping the 35-and-above division.
The venue will be at the CIC Centre basketball court at the back of CIC building along Beach Road.
During the opening ceremonies, awards will be given out, including the Best in Uniform and Best in Muse, who must be 18-25 years old to qualify.
Muleta said the deadline for submission of entries would be on Sept. 21.
Each team will have a maximum of 13 players with an entry fee of $500 for each team.
Muleta said the entry fee could be paid in full or a 50 percent down payment but a team must make sure to pay the 50 percent balance after its first two games or before it could be able to play in its third game.
Another meeting will be held next Tuesday, Sept. 9, to finalize the tournament format and league rules, as well as prizes, trophies and uniforms.
Interested teams are invited to attend the meeting. For more details, contact Pando Muleta at 285-9783.
