It was a case of when it rains, it pours.

A few minutes after clinching the championship of the 2008 Budweiser Saipan Major League, individual awards flooded Rock Steady’s side.

Players from the pennant and 2008 SML champion Rock Steady took 10 trophies for their outstanding performances in the regular season and in the best-of-five title series.

Leading the list were Tyrone Omar and Nick San Nicolas, who were adjudged most valuable players in the regular season and in the championship showdown, respectively.

Omar went home with two more trophies, topping the most runs category with 26 and wining the Golden Globe Award (outfield).

San Nicolas nailed his second trophy after prevailing in the ERA category with an average of 0.81.

Other Rock Steady players who took home individual trophies were Manny Sablan (most doubles and Catcher of the Year) and Oliver Secharmidal (Golden Glove Award, infield)

Rock Steady’s Joey Dela Cruz claimed the Coach of the Year plum, while Mel Tenorio notched the Manager of the Year award.

Besides Rock Steady players, also winning multiple awards were Komoro’s Kim Jae Young and the Ford Rangers’ Benwachi Taisakan.

Kim collected three trophies, winning the strikeouts race and the Rookie of the Year and Pitcher of the Year awards.

Taisakan was the triples and homerun champion.

Other individual awardees named after the deciding Game 5 of the title series between the Rangers and Rock Steady at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield were the Korean Dreams’ John M. Reyes (batting champion) and Jason Reyes (triples champion), the San Roque D-9ers’ Jonathan Tenorio (RBIs champion), and the Tanapag Falcons’ Mike Pangelinan (homerun champion).

The Sportsmanship Award went to last year’s champion the Falcons.

The Rangers settled for the runner-up trophy when they lost to Rock Steady in Game 5, 3-5. They also took the pennant runner-up plum, finishing the regular season with a 10-4 record.

Baseball president Rose Igitol thanked MARPAC and Budweiser for donating trophies and for supporting SML in the past three seasons.

“We hope to continue this partnership with MARPAC and Budweiser to ensure the continued development of baseball on the island,” she said.
