Tidy up Saipan’s tourist spots
We just returned from another vacation to Saipan. Over the past years we have watched Saipan tourism go to the dogs. Despite everyone complaining about the slump and some excitedly discussing the new breed of Russian tourists, we see very little new efforts to make Spain more attractive to tourists.
We noted some areas that really could be improved at low costs that could be recovered by tourist dollars:
1. Round up the half dead dogs at the tourist spots such as Suicide Cliff and Garapan so tourists aren’t afraid and don’t have to dodge the doo doo;
2. Pick up the road kill that stinks for weeks on end and breeds the flies that are increasing;
3. Put up some lights and an improved sidewalk from Garapan along Beach Road.
4. Clean the red light shops out of Garapan so the touring families don’t get so harassed and embarrassed; and
5. Clean up Garapan’s empty lots and abandon homes so tourists feel free to walk around more and find gems like 747 or the 99 Cent Store.
Seems like there are plenty of good people who could volunteer to help with this, especially shop and restaurant owners and staff. Even though we live in Japan, we want to see more tourists in Saipan so it doesn’t lose more shops and restaurants. But, we were happy to see the guards at the various tourist spot parking lots. A big thanks to those who arranged that.
