9 congressional delegate hopefuls certified
The Commonwealth Election Commission has certified all nine U.S. congressional delegate hopefuls.
Election Commission acting executive director Julita Villagomez told Saipan Tribune yesterday that the certification of nine candidates was made during the election commissioners’ meeting at the Civil Service Commission Friday morning.
Villagomez said the certification means all nine who filed their candidacy passed all the requirements to run in the Nov. 4 race.
Saipan Municipal Council member Felipe Atalig was the ninth and last person to file his candidacy on the deadline day—Aug. 6, 2008.
Before Atalig, high school teacher and Vietnam War veteran John Davis also filed his candidacy.
The seven other candidates are Resident Rep. Pete A. Tenorio, former senator David Cing, television talk show host John Oliver Gonzales, retired judge Juan T. Lizama, businessman Chong Won, Sen. Luis Crisostimo, and former Election Commission executive director Gregorio “Kilili” Sablan.
Villagomez said the drawing for the slots will be done today, Wednesday, at 9am at the Election Commission’s office on Capital Hill.
The drawing, Villagomez said, would determine the arrangement on how the names of the nine candidates will be placed on the ballots.
