A lack of power in the CNMI Superior Court building yesterday couldn’t keep Stanley Tudela from being sworn in as Department of Public Safety Commissioner.

When the Superior Court’s generator was turned off and everyone was left in the dark, the ceremony was moved to the DPS station. He was sworn in by Associate Justice Alexandro Castro.

DPS officers and Tudela’s daughters joined him at the ceremony.

“I asked my daughters to come,” a smiling Tudela said after the ceremony.

Now he can officially wear the badge, he added, laughing.

This was the second—and final—part of the process for Tudela to become commissioner. On Friday, the Senate confirmed him to the post.

During the hearing, Tudela told senators that he would do his best to help solve the recent string of burglaries.

Tudela earlier disclosed that his priorities would be opening up the police and fire cycle to address the manpower shortage at DPS.

The Fitial administration terminated Claudio K. Norita as DPS commissioner and tapped Tudela as his replacement.

Tudela served as DPS commissioner during the Babauta administration.
