A Mass this Sunday Aug. 31, at the San Jose Church on Saipan will kick off the Substance Abuse Prevention, Treatment/Recovery Month, or SAPTember.

SAPTember committee chair Tony Benavente said monthlong activities will include community presentations on how to prevent and control substance abuse, especially among the youth in the CNMI.

Youth groups will gather at the Susupe Basketball Court on Sept. 6 for the Family Fun Day. The activity will start at 8am.

This gathering will feature “Big Daddy Trucks” and “Small Mama Trucks” where kids will compete using their remote controlled toys.

“Everybody is invited to this occasion,” said Benaventel.

Different government agencies will be involved as well as the private sector. The Community Guidance Center will be the lead agency.

Benavente said Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela would soon sign a proclamation declaring September as Substance Abuse Prevention, Treatment/Recovery Month.
