66 take part in Foundation & Family Day Walk
Participants from Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan and a Japanese couple who came to the CNMI to dive were among the 66 participants of last Saturday’s 7th Annual Foundation & Family Day Walk held along the Saipan Beach Pathway.
No less than the Garapan landmark’s general manager, B.K. Park, led dozens of Fiesta Resort and Spa employees in the walk sponsored by the Saipan Walking Association, Inc., which started bright and early at 6am.
Yasuhiro Kameda and his wife, Mayumi, from Fukui Prefecture also took part in the event. The two have previously visited the CNMI seven times to dive but decided to shake things up on their eighth trip by joining the walk.
“They were happy to find out about this event and really enjoyed walking. Unfortunately, the weather was cloudy and had a squall toward the end of the walk, but participants still enjoyed the Saturday morning walk,” said SAIWAI board member Hiroko Tajima.
Starting point for the 7th Annual Foundation & Family Day Walk was at the Carolinian Utt, all the way up to the Japanese tank on Quartermaster Road and back for the five-kilometer route and to the Oleai Beach Bar and back for the 10-km walk.
Like all SAIWAI activities, IVV members received credit for joining the 7th Annual Foundation & Family Day Walk.
IVV has member walking clubs in the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, Nepal, Australia, New Zealand, the CNMI, and 29 other European countries, including Germany.
SAIWAI’s next walk is scheduled on Nov. 15 when they hold the Don’t be a Turkey Walk in cooperation with the Department of Public Health and CNMI Diabetes Coalition.
