The Fitial administration continues to analyze the effects of the federalization law on the CNMI, according to press secretary Charles Reyes Jr. yesterday.

Reyes said this is why Fitial’s special legal counsel Howard Willens and volunteer consultant and Labor hearing officer Deane Siemer were supposed to hold a presentation in the House’s chamber yesterday morning.

It was canceled, though, due to a power outage, Reyes said.

He said Willens and Siemer were set to discuss the federalization law, among other topics.

“I think we’re continuing to look at the consequences and implications of the legislation and the effects on the CNMI,” Reyes said. “We’re looking at what may be likely and what may not be likely.”

Senate President Pete P. Reyes on Tuesday informed lawmakers that the Executive Branch’s topics for discussion would be aspects of CNMI and U.S. labor laws, the islands’ economic situation and outlook, and strategies to improve both.
