G-Rollers I showed no love lost against G-Rollers II, hammering their sister team, 87-42, in the 2008 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League Tuesday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The much experienced G-Rollers I gave G-Rollers II players a neat basketball lesson, especially on the offensive end, scoring numerous easy layups and uncontested jumpers.

By the end of the first half, the G-Rollers I was way ahead, 35-13.

The G-Rollers II had only two players making more than one field goal in the first 20 minutes of the game with Eugene Manglona firing six points and Jerry Mabini adding five. Mike Manglona scored the G-Rollers I’s other basket.

In contrast, G-Rollers I had several offensive options in the first half. Brandon Aurelio was among them, making two triples and finishing with 20 points in the first half. Manny Matagolai also had 10 points in the first half, earning most of them from short jumpers. Ed Camacho and Fredo Paez chipped in six apiece, while three other players made one basket each.

The G-Rollers II began piling up points in the second half with Mabini drilling several triples, but these were not enough to bring them back in the game and pull off an upset over the 2006 Rotary champions.

The G-Rollers I lost to the Junior Nationals in the semifinals last season, while the G-Rollers II failed to make it to the playoffs.

Aurelio led the G-Rollers I’s winning debut this season, scoring 20 points while Matagolai had 17.

Mabini paced the G-Rollers II with 14 points, while Mike Manglona contributed 20.

Meanwhile, two more teams will play their first game of the season tonight, as Capital Hill collides with the Kagman Suns.
Last night, the G-Stars debuted against the San Antonio Sixers, but results of the match were unavailable at press time.

G-Rollers I 87 – Aurelio 20, Matagolai 17, Ambrose 9, Babauta 8, E. Camacho 6, Concepcion 6, A. Camacho 5, Danas 4, Namero 2, Castro 2.
